Slamming on stone.
Knuckles bleeding.
Breaking of bone.
Desperately pleading.
Heart pounding,
Stomach reeling.
Pulse bounding,
Trapped ceiling.
Shrill scream
Cracking silence.
Bad dream
Evoking violence.
Mama’s voice:
“Open your eyes”;
Quietened noise;
Walls were lies.
Warmth and light
Lift the veil;
The world in sight
Melts my jail.
Stars align
And knowing sets;
Clarity shines,
Unknots the nets.
Only a glimpse
Of joy today,
As I flinch
In sudden dismay.
Darkness falls,
Lost and alone.
Giant walls,
Mindless moan.
Tired and kneeling,
Mind is worn,
And somehow a feeling,
I’ve been here before.
